Divine Monarchs

Divine Monarchs is a captivating semi-abstract wildlife painting featuring two deer amidst a bluebell wood in springtime. Inspired by the months of April and May, when woodlands are blanketed in vibrant bluebells, this piece reflects the delicate beauty of the season. While spotting deer in the forests is rare, spring offers a unique opportunity to catch glimpses of them against the rich blues, lilacs, and pinks of the flowers.

Originally conceived as a traditional portrait of a stag and a doe, the artist found that capturing their true essence was impossible within the confines of anatomical accuracy. Instead, the focus shifted to portraying the ethereal spirit of these creatures. The result is a shimmering painting that pulses with the life and energy of the woodland, with the interplay of sun and shade beautifully contrasted—blue and lilac shadows against the warm yellows, pinks, and greens of a sun-dappled scene.

Divine Monarchs transports the viewer into the heart of nature’s quiet majesty, offering a moment of stillness and reverence for the creatures that roam our wild spaces. This painting invites a connection to the world beyond the visible, celebrating the soul of the deer and the vibrant life of the woodland.

Artist’s Vision

gill bustamante

Gill is a British visual artist who creates semi-abstract landscapes that transcend mere representation, capturing the soul of a place rather than just its physical form. Inspired by her walks through nature, she absorbs the sights, scents, and energy of the landscape, later distilling these impressions from memory onto canvas. This intuitive approach allows her to preserve the most vivid and emotive elements, evoking the essence of a season or terrain. Birds and wildlife often emerge within her compositions, infusing her work with movement, life, and a deep connection to the natural world.
